(Sustainable building) Decorate Your Home with a Cabin Theme

By Gail Logan

When it comes to home decorating there is one thing that must be said-people seem to long for the simple life and cabin living. Of all the styles of decorating and dcor this is one that seems to be repeated most often but in different ways. Seriously there are all kinds of ‘cabin’ dcor websites, magazines, brochures, books, and how to videos all over the place than probably any other style of decorating.

One reason for the phenomenal popularity of this particular type of home decorating style probably has a little bit to do with the simplicity of it. There are no hard and fast rules, there aren’t fancy faux finishes and textured painting that needs to be done in order to complete the look and there aren’t overly complicated rules for what is and isn’t acceptable. From the bear budget to the champagne and caviar crowd there is some sort of dcor available that will suit not only the home decorating needs but also the need for quality as well.

Another thing that many find appealing about a cabin themed home decorating plan is that it simply exudes warmth year round. From the dark colors to the flannel materials and the soft homespun simplicity of the design many find it simply irresistible. One thing that is obvious in this style of decorating is that it appeals to those who love home and hearth and warmth and good will far more than modern touches and design elements. This is not a hard plastic sort of design style and it shouldn’t endeavor to become one as the two styles are almost systematically opposed to one another.

If you want the warmth of a Montana cabin in your home every day of the year this is one great way to do it. Bring the bears, the moose, and all the furry forest friends to frolic in your living room, on your light fixtures, and in your dreams as you fall into restful sleep each night. From the bedroom to the bathroom and the kitchen in between the cabin style of home decorating is one that is making great waves in the market place.

You will find many stores online and locally that cater to the cabin loving audience for hardware, knick-knacks, and what knots galore. The thing to remember is that the design essence isn’t the little touches you add along the way, it’s the warmth of wood, fire, leather, and wrought iron. These are the materials that will establish the cabin appeal more quickly than any of the little touches you can add along the way. Drywall and plaster simply cannot carry the look. Knotty pine or some other rich style of wood is the best option for walls when pulling off a cabin home appeal.

More importantly than anything though is the need to include a little bit of yourself in the design. Do not hesitate to carve your initials with a heart into the wood of your walls. It is one more thing that will be not only endearing but also appropriate to the home and the atmosphere. There is a type of innocence about a cabin style home and the little touches such as that will leave a lasting impression.

The Clinic For Emotional Wellness - Know More About Psycho Educational Assessment For Kids

By Toan Dinh

If your child is suspected of having a learning disability or other challenge such as a language processing difficulty, an assessment is likely one of the first steps in dealing with the underlying issue or issues. Now that a new school year has started, parents may be seeing signals that things are not going well. Often, certain behaviours such as signs of stress, depression, anxiety, or unwillingness to go to school are strong indicators of underlying learning problems. Whenever a child exhibits these or other warning signs, parents need to assure their children that they have love and support and at the same time quickly begin the process to get to the root of the childs problem.

This often begins with a doctors visit to ensure that there are no physiological problems as well as discussions at the school with the teacher and perhaps the principal. If a psychological assessment is recommended, the earlier the assessment is done the better, and be aware that your child may face a long wait for an assessment through the school system.

According to the Learning Disabilities Association of Canada (LDAC), the assessment is to find out if indeed the child has learning disabilities, what the childs strengths and needs are and what supports are needed; all of these components are essential and a full understanding may require a battery of tests.

Keep in mind that your child may be experiencing anxiety, anger, and/or depression, and you need to be supportive and understanding of how all these feelings may affect your childs performance. By preparing your child for psycho educational testing, you can reduce anxiety and encourage cooperation through the upcoming tests. Reassure the child that the reason for the testing is to understand why school is a struggle despite hard work and attempts to do well. Explain that the tests will have a variety of questions, puzzles, drawings, stories, and games; reassure the child that the tests will not hurt them and let him or her know that you will be nearby. Be open and honest as much as possible.

Learning disabilities in Canada are common; according to LDAC, about 1 in 10 kids have a learning disability. A learning disability does not mean diminished intellectual capability. In fact, those with learning disabilities have average to above-average intelligence, and many are gifted. Some very famous people have dealt very successfully with learning disabilities, including Albert Einstein, Virginia Woolf and Nelson Rockefeller.

Baby Boomers and the Vote

By Gail Logan

Younger generations in the United States do not show much interest in the political games of boomers although recently, they are not the largest population of voters.

There was even an incidence when Matthew Shephard, the mother and symbol of hate-crime against homosexuals in Chicago expressed her dismay in front of the Roosevelt University. She questioned the political activism of the present generation for not expressing themselves the way they did before. She even recalled the times when boomers confronted authority.

The problem was that boomers are approaching retirement and perhaps losing their agility to make the same protests again. The new generation is asking a different set of questions. Some suggested to get rid off the authority and stop asking questions like what the boomer radicals did during the 60’s.

The point of the new generation is to know where the authority goes. They see that the voter driver’s efforts are nonsense. Even if they keep on pursuing the slogans “Rock the Vote” and “Vote or Die”; still it lacks assessment on the federal government’s credibility. New generations cannot get what the government wants to emphasize. They observed that in order to obtain good things from the government, one should exercise their right to vote.

But these young people display activeness in their own way. They even exceeded performances of the baby boomers in numerous campaign activities like displaying bumper stickers, signs, and buttons, attending rallies, and persuading others to vote.

A great Sociologist, Robert Nisbet distinguished the terms authority and power. Power is a force while authority can be forged on social bonds of churches, families, communities, and business. Despite the rage of baby boomers against authority, they have accumulated lots of power for their bureaucracy. It might be under Bush or Clinton, R or D. It took off before the new generation of unwieldy and impersonal youths.

The new generation knew what power meant. They didn’t want the baby boomers to tell them where it is and how to seek it. They are disposed by cultural usurpations touching their personal lives to become contemptuous of power. Young Americans know divorce power, Eric Harris and Klebold’s power, Jerry Springer’s power, teen sex power, abortion power, and Osama bin Laden’s power. These are not the types of power that they crave because they have already seen its consequences. What they seek is a confident, strong, gentle, and honor-bound authority.

It cannot be denied that young voters are cynical concerning national politics largely different from apathy. The children born during the 80’s named as Reagan’s Children never invested their time on direct political procedures. They have changed the boomer’s action to entrepreneurialism, community service, technology, and religion. They are after an authority which governs rather than an established government which has nothing to offer. Politics might also be the interest of the new generation, however in a very different perspective far from what their forefathers wanted them to inherit. They perceive that government as federal and big, centers on mobilizing the youth on their voting rights.

The person controlling the polls will gain larger percentage of the national power. But no one knows if the voting booths are sacredly held by baby boomers and beats the relationship authority prized by prospective young voters. It is possible that the obsession for power of the boomers generation will defeat the young American generation who hungers for authority. This could happen since boomers defeated that authority already.

However, everybody never wanted a generational clash. The boomer retirees are just determined in living life to the fullest as an expense on their children’s paid taxes. However, this provokes wars in the Congress related on government costs. Thus it confounds their capacity to serve, to invest, and to love. Younger statesmen said that it is the cost that matters not their responsibilities, paid taxes, and freedom. The boomers power-hungry declaration requires the new generation (committed on authority institutions and focused on internet economy) to vote, to join politics, and fight the gray-haired builders of a powerful government.

In such struggle, they have enlisted a constitutional language which starts on securing their liberty blessings to themselves and prosperity. The task of the new generation is to save those blessings in threat more than ordering the people to vote.
